Plan B's

There's nothing wrong with having a Plan B. I for one encourage it. Sure it's not your dream job but it can help tie you over till Plan A is in view. I used to be a shamed of my Plan B. The more I worked there the more frustrated I got. I just wanted my dream job sooo bad that doing anything else made me ill. It wasn't until I moved to LA when I realized. I wasn't the only with a "day job" and moonlighting in the industry. I think just knowing that took a load of pressure off of me. In the industry there are no doors and in this economy there are no windows either. To make it one has to be creative. I've found that a big part of it is location. As they say "LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!" There's also timing. But that's another post.

Plan B's are just as important as Plan A's.  It's great to have a dream but dreams take time and money to develop. It's always best to find a Plan B that is closely related. But if it's not try to use that as a tool.  Like stepping stones, use them to reach your goals. They will not only advance you in your career but also develop you as a person.

A Board Artist

Today I thought I'd start with something new. I've been just really using this blog to post drawing and photos of what I'm doing. But after taking my storyboarding class at the animation guild I realize how very little I did know about boarding. Not that I'm saying I didn't receive a good education but I can see the huge holes in the program. Entertainment Arts is not something that you can go to school and get a job. It's something you learn on the streets. Getting your hands dirty and working for peanuts, if that.  I've learn more in the 1 1/2 yrs I've been in LA than the 5 yrs at art school.
It's amazing how many people come down here (Hollywood) and think a job will just land in there lap.  And as far as internships go, everyone has Pixar and Disney on the brain. The truth of the matter is most will never make it there right out of school. It takes hard work, networking and patience.  Patience is a big one. In this economy less projects are being green light and thus creating less opportunities for newcomers.
There is so much to cover, so I won't bore you with it all in one post. I think I have a topic of the day and relate it to what is going on in my life and what I learned from the experience.  I'm not writing this to boast but to mentor. If you have a question, free feel to leave a comment and I'll answer it to the best of my ability.

Labor Day

To wear white or to not wear white after Labor Day...that is the question. Hell, if it looks good, wear it!!
